MUHAMMAD
The Man & His Message
"lf a man like Muhammad were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world,
he would succeed in solving its problems that would bring it the much needed
peace and happiness."George Bernard Shaw
"My choice of Muhammad to lead the list of the world's most in.uential persons may surprise some readers and may be questioned by others, but he was the only man in history who was supremely successful on both the religious and secular levels." Michael H. Hart, 100; A Ranking of the Most Influential Persons in History
"In little more than a year he was actually the spiritual, nominal and temporal
ruler of Medina, with his hands on the lever that was to shake the world." John
Austin, "Muhammad the Prophet of Allah," in T.P's and Cassel's Weekly
for 24th September 1927.

Billions of Muslims all over the world throughout the last 14 hundred years
have accepted the religious teachings of Muhammad. An illiterate orphan
brought up in the harsh desert climate of Arabia transformed a backward
society into a great civilization. Who was this Man? What was his Message
which continues to win the hearts of generations?
Find out in our upcoming lecture:

it's over

i probably should be thrilled
and celebrating over it
but i'm freaking worried
about the outcome

everyone goes
'as long as you pass it's okey'
but it is NOT okey damnit

i didn't come here all the way
just to get P(Pass) or C(Credit) grades
i'm not even satisfied with a D(Disctinction)
i'll only ever settle for a HD(High Disctinction)

but it's hard
*cries*
darn hard
and i feel really disappointed with myself
when i don't get my goal

all the papers i've done
i know i'll pass them
but that's not good enough for me

*frustrated*

it's not that i haven't been studying
i have
but *urgh*
apparently it's not enough

*really frustrated*

and right now
thing's are going to get pretty hectic in my life
initially wanted to find housemates
but the parents have instructed for me to move instead
so now Lyna has to find herself a place to stay

pronto

Thursday, June 17, 2004

"Lyna if i get HD (High Disctinction) for this paper (IMS 3010)
I'm going to shave my head bald... skinhead bald"

then, for the sake of seeing you
look like a deranged convict with a bald head
i shall make du'a that you get HD for it Osman

=P
was hit by the severity of it all on Tuesday night
it was like a hard slap upon my face

reading surahs al-Fath, al-Hujraat and Qaf
immediately after that
helped to dissipate the shock and anger

anger at myself mind you
for being too complacent
for being too dependent on others
for being dumb and not realising it

not that i havent been looking
i have, but the seriousness of the matter
never really got to me

apparently everyone else but me
had it all figured out

Lyna Lyna Lyna
what have you done?

dear Lord
what have i done to my parents?

i was there standing by the sink
filling up the can
while waiting for my turn to use the cubicle

she was initially talking to her friend
and when it was her friend's turn to use the cubicle
she turned around to face the mirror
and saw me looking into the mirror as well

she caught my eye
and there was something in her eye when she saw me
the hijab wearing Muslim girl that i am
some kind of glint flashed through her eyes
the atmosphere was certainly electric
almost tensed

the Quran warned us against them
but yesterday was the first time
i came face to face with their kind
or at least with someone of their kind who practices it

im talking about the Jews
Yahuds
Yahudi

there was some sort of Jewish conference, event, function or whatever
and they've booked our campus facilities
making the whole of Level 2 Block B out of bounds for us
and it so happens that the Level 1 toilets
were right outside the musollah

heh
which was where i had that encounter
with one of them in the toilet yesterday

they were around on Sunday too
and Hatice said
"my brother told me
'because the toilets were near the musollah
and because they used them
i made sure i called the azan reallllly loud'"

i had to burst out laughing at that

======================================================

when she first heard of our rough plans
her exact words were
'selamat lah you nanti dengan dia....'
and although it sorta resulted from my actions
i sure as hell can still identify with what she means

not gonna be around when it happens

it was great having you here
a wonderful chance
for us to bond with one another
we should meet up often when im back yea?

apologies for having to ditch you the whole week
but we had a fun weekend no?

and apologies too
if there had been shortcomings from me
throughout your stay

thank you for your gift and card
thank you too for your birthday wishes
that was a real surprise for me
*smiles*

enjoy your holiday with your family in KL

love,
Lyna

when the weather
is really cold
my nose starts to bleed

like what happened today
and yesterday
it doesn't hurt
or anything like that
it just bleeds
*shrugs*

a pretty chilly foggy morning we had today
and with two cups of warm warm tea with milk
of course it would start bleeding
not worried at all though

not a very good revision day today
not sure why
haven't manage to achieve much

somehow things i'm reading today
are not getting into my mind
could be due to the fact that
i've been studying
4 straight days in a row
that i'm tired of it all

thank goodness for IISCA tomorrow
a much needed spiritual breather

in an email sent to my lecturer
dated 9th June 2004

Hi xxxx

I have a small request to ask for with regards to the upcoming IMS 3470 paper.

As a strict practicing Muslim, I am absolutely concerned that due to the timing of the paper, it would mean that I would have to miss one of my daily 5 times a day prayer, which happens to fall between 3-5pm.

I hope that you or the University would allow me to perform my obligation in between the paper. I would really appreciate it if I am given time, perhaps between 3-3.30pm, to perform my prayers. In addition to that, it would really help if I am given extra time to complete my paper due to the fact that I had to leave in the middle of it.

I am not asking for much. Just a little time and some small quiet corner for me to pray.

I hope that my humble request will be taken into consideration. If the need arises, my student ID is xxxxxxxx and I can be contacted at xxxx xxx xxx.

Regards,
Lyna

the reply?

I have had some information from Examinations Branch:
"most Muslim students pray at their desk and they do not allow extra time for this (they just bow their heads and don't disturb others). If the student particularly wants to go to a quiet place he/she can speak to the supervisor beforehand and if they are sympathetic and willing and there is a suitable place they will be accommodated but no extra time will be given. "
Please follow these procedures.
Good luck
xxxx

yeeps!

Hatice had a different experience last year
had to sit for a 3 hour paper as well
in between Asar and Maghrib
however the exam supervisiors that day was terrific
gave her a small room and extra time to complete her paper

i'm sure the Lord will help me with this
after all
i'm doing it for Him no?

dum dee dum

am in school
waiting for the cousin to beep me
before heading to train station to meet her
well, sorta meet her
plan is to take the same train
and walk home together-gether

she went on a day trip
to great ocean road
hoped she took lotsa pictures
and had fun

yesterday was a whole day of walking
tiring but fruitful me thinks
showed her around the city
Swanston St, Bourke St and what nots
Queen Victoria Market
the City Mosque and Chinatown

spent the whole day today at uni
in the prayer room
studying together with Aisyah
joined by a few others throughout the day

great feeling studying in there
with the occasional call of adhan
sounds of the congregation
nice-ness amat

and i *think*
i managed to achieve quite a lot today
30 questions out of 110
reckon that's not too bad?

then again, while doing them
had to keep referring to the lecture notes and textbook
maybe i am screwed after all?

what is it with people?
when i tell them my papers start on the 21st
they go 'why the hell are you studying now?'
hey, i can't help it if i'm sin-lam-wau you know
*sniffles*

Sat's class was uneventful
had tajweed test
think i aced it...NOT
*shrugs*

went through the last ten verses of surah Maryam
with Umm Amatullah
amazing how the Quran
can affect each and every one of us
in unique and different ways
judging by the responses from the sisters
when asked what they learnt from those verses

i think i can relate to what Hafiz once said
'i'm a reflection of the way you treat me
treat me the way you want to be treated'
you said it honey

there is no guarantee except in His mercy

was it wrong for me to haf voiced it out?

come to think of it
never really been close all these years
there was always someone else that sorta glue us together
we juz happened to be thrown together for this journey
never really shared personal details even back then

maybe this is something we can't force after all yea?
the friendship i mean
it has to come naturally no?

juz like how it's happened to my Syabab circle of friends
it's juz so right to be hanging around with them
though pergaulan bebas memanglah salah
but i reckon
it's because we have that same desire among all of us
that spirit of volunteerism and da'awah
it helps us to bond really well

and then there's people like dohter dear, tangy darling and the wise one
meet ups are absolutely rare but somehow
we care a lot about each other
well at least that's the way it is in my case

isn't there a hadith that goes something like
be among friends who would remind you of your deen/Allah s.w.t. or something like that?

like i said
some things can't be forced or pushed

*sigh*

am missing dohter dear loads
mobile's on low so can't message her much
wonder how her holiday's been so far
